INTERGENERATIONAL INTEGRATION
Revitalization of the cultural and recreational complex by the Lake Strzeszyńskie in Poznań
masters degree project at University of Fine Arts in Poznań
Intergenerational integration has a major influence on children’s social development and seniors’ general well-being. As a society we should put an emphasis on this, especially in times when multigenerational homes are disappearing and age groups are becoming more separated from each other.
Interior design of the modernist Motel building in Strzeszynek and nearby wooden houses is taking a function of integrational center. Its spaces are reflecting the goal of the idea through the design which connects current and previous trends. Propositions of changes are made to raise the rank of the complex and provide it with an aesthetic look related to its history. Original glass facade is brought back and the function of houses is changed to meet the needs of the center.
The project of Motel’s interior consists of 13 rooms with bathrooms, an entrance hall with reception and restaurant, toilets, utility rooms and a common living room. Art gallery is located in the building next to the Motel and seven wooden houses are planned to be in turn: a kitchen, a cinema and a theater, an exercise room, toilets, a library, an art studio and a conference room. The interiors are expressing respect for the closeness of nature - chosen materials, products and solutions are based on the idea of sustainability. The inspirations come from archival hotels and restaurants projects as well as from modern design.
New space is designed to be friendly and attractive for both age groups, to make children and eldery feel safe and relaxed, and to make moving around the complex intuitive and easy.
